Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 18, 2026
Heed is built privacy-first. We designed it so the most sensitive things — your voice and which apps you block — never leave your device. This policy explains what we do and don't collect, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Your voice never leaves your device. Spoken declarations are transcribed on-device by your phone's speech recognition. We never record, upload, or store audio.
- No account or sign-up is required. You can use Heed without giving us your name, email, or phone number.
- Your app-blocking data stays on your device. Which apps you block is handled by Apple's Screen Time framework in a sandbox we cannot read.
- We don't sell your data. Ever.
Information we process
To run the app and its features, we (and the trusted services below) process limited information:
- Anonymous usage analytics — feature usage, screens viewed, and crash/diagnostic events, via Google Analytics for Firebase. This is tied to a random identifier, not to you personally, and you can turn it off anytime in Settings → "Share Usage Statistics".
- An anonymous app identity — when features that sync (like Witness) are used, the app creates a random, anonymous Firebase identifier. It contains no personal information and is not linked to your real identity.
- Streak & progress data — your streak counts and declaration totals may be stored so the Witness page and weekly updates can reflect your progress.
- Witness information (only if you choose to add a Witness) — if you invite an accountability partner, you provide their email address and a display name. We store this and use it to send them progress updates and encouragement prompts. You can remove a Witness at any time in the app, which stops all messages to them.
- Subscription & purchase data — handled by RevenueCat and the Apple App Store / Google Play to manage your subscription and entitlements. We receive purchase status, not your payment details.
- Advertising identifiers — for users on the free tier, Google AdMob may use device advertising identifiers to serve ads (personalized or non-personalized based on your device settings).
What we do NOT collect
- Audio recordings of your voice.
- The contents of, or detailed usage of, the apps you block.
- Your name, email, phone number, or precise location (unless you voluntarily provide a Witness's email).
How we use information
- To operate core features (declarations, focus/blocking, streaks).
- To power the Witness accountability loop you opt into (progress page + email updates).
- To understand which features help (aggregate, anonymous analytics) and improve the app.
- To manage subscriptions and show appropriate content (free vs. premium).
Third-party services
We rely on these providers, each governed by their own privacy policies:
- Apple — Screen Time / app blocking, on-device speech recognition, and App Store billing.
- Google Firebase — anonymous analytics, anonymous authentication, and cloud storage (Firestore) for streak/Witness data.
- Google AdMob — advertising on the free tier.
- RevenueCat — subscription management.
- Resend — delivery of Witness emails to the address you provide.
Data retention
Anonymous analytics are retained per Google Firebase's standard retention settings. Streak and Witness data are kept while the feature is active; removing your Witness or requesting deletion (below) removes the associated data. Uninstalling the app stops all new data collection.
Your choices & rights
- Turn off analytics anytime in Settings → "Share Usage Statistics".
- Remove a Witness anytime in the app to stop and delete that relationship.
- Request access or deletion of any data associated with your install by emailing us (below). Because we don't collect personal identifiers by default, please include details that help us locate the relevant data.
- Manage your subscription through your Apple ID or Google Play account settings.
Children's privacy
Heed is suitable for general audiences (rated 4+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Parental guidance is encouraged for any digital-wellbeing tool.
Security
We use industry-standard providers and security rules to protect the limited data we process. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to safeguard your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the app.
